From Hotel Canova, the University La Sapienza of Rome is just a walk of about 2 km.
The La Sapienza University of Rome is the most important educational institution in Europe with more than 700 years of history and 145 thousand students enrolled.
In order to prevent crowding and to better integrate the University into the urban fabric of Rome, five federal universities with 23 faculties were created. Teachers number more than 4,500; technicians and administrators about 5,000.
The current rector is collegial. Working alongside the rector, there is a vicar, vice rectors and delegates with specific skills. There are also many committies and twoprivate universities for evaluation and strategic planning. Sapienza offers more than 370 undergraduate degree programs and 300 graduate programs. There are 155 libraries and 21 museums.
The student body includes more than 30 thousand, with more than 5,000 non-Italians and approximately 800 Erasmus students every year. Services of the university include guidance and placement.
Sapienza has reached unparalleled levels of excellence in research fields such as archeology, physics and astrophysics, the humanities and cultural heritage, environment, nanotechnology, cell therapy and gene design, and aerospace.
In 2006, along with Filas, Bic Lazio, and Unicredit Bank funded the Sapienza Innovation consortium that promotes collaboration between universities, research centers, and enterprise.
